Help wanted to monitor local footpaths

Help wanted to monitor local footpaths

Do you ever come across footpaths or bridleways that are difficult to use because of overgrown vegetation, obstacles, inadequate stiles or gates or other problems? Would you be willing to join a small group to monitor the Huttons Ambo paths?

The County Council doesn’t carry out routine surveys or monitoring, so volunteer support is required if we are to ensure that the rights of way network is signed and available for use.

The Ramblers Ryedale Group would like to set up a network of Local Footpath Monitors – volunteers who would keep an eye on the state of our paths (including footpaths, bridleways and other public rights of way) in a particular parish or a group of smaller parishes.

The aim is that volunteers would walk particular routes on a regular basis, say once a year. If there were half a dozen in Huttons Ambo parish, this should be easy to achieve! I have offered to try and set up a small group to walk the rights of way in our parish (and one or two other paths close by, if there is any interest).

I have more details of what’s involved that I can send anyone who’d like to know a bit more about it and they are also available by clicking here

If you might like to help, please let me know, ideally before Friday 29 June via parishclerk@huttonsambo.com

There is an introductory meeting for potential volunteers on the evening of Monday 2 July in Pickering. You’d be welcome to join me if you’d like to.

I look forward to hearing from you!
