Christmas Shoe Box Appeal

Christmas Shoe Box Appeal

LinkToHope arrange collection and distribution of shoeboxes of gifts for families and the elderly in Eastern Europe.

Whilst they are a Christian organisation they give to those in need regardless of background, colour, creed or religion.

Christmas seems a long way away but boxes need to be filled and collected by early November.

There is scheme for Children’s Boxes with games and education materials and one for The Elderly containing items such as wind up torches, sensory items, candles etc. Please start thinking if this is something you would like to contribute to and find a shoe box (not always easy).

Information sheets will be available from Herbies in the coming month or so giving details of what items make up a good box, or you can download the leaflet here

Liz will coordinate and collect the boxes and get to the local LTH coordinator. Please let her know if you will be participating by October 1st and boxes should be ready by October 19th.

Huttons Ambo Churchyard Wildflower Meadow

The plan to create a wild flower meadow in the back churchyard is progressing. Thanks to Simon Jackson's two Jacobs Sheep spending the Autumn there the snowdrops and primroses have never been better. Meanwhile Lindsay and I have planted more flowers which are beginning to appear including a  few fritillaries which we hope the pheasants won't deadhead!

The key to success is to leave the grass until August/September and then rake it up.Anyone willing to help with this task would be very welcome, please get in touch with me by phone or email so I can contact you when needed.

Meanwhile do visit the churchyard. It is a beautiful and peaceful place,

Many thanks

Rosa

Huttons Ambo Apple Day

Huttons Ambo Apple Day

The Village Hall Fundraising team are hoping hold an Apple day in the village on October 17th

We would like to have activities for all ages, talks , tastings, appley food and beverages, of course apple bobbing and toffee apples.

We already have support from the Yorkshire Arboretum Organisation and the Northern Fruit Group.

We are thinking it would be great to have an Apple Tree Trail round the village with an expert guide who could talk about our trees and identify their varieties. I am sure there are many old apple trees in the village and many people who have loved and cared for them over the years. If you have or know of any apple trees or orchards in the village which should be part of this trail please can you let Liz or Alison Hewitt know asap so we can start putting together a list for the trail route.

Also nearer the time if you have apples you could donate for a tasting or pressing please let us know.

We would also welcome helpers and any other ideas to make it a great day for everyone – please get in touch.
