The Huttons Ambo Village website was created many years ago by one of our residents, Michelle Stone. It was set up as a personal initiative by Michelle as a means to keeping all parishioners up to date with news and events taking place in the village. In 2010, it was converted to a blog due to problems with the website hosting, and it has remained as a blog ever since, as this format seems to work.
In addition to being Chief Editor, Michelle also created many of the feature posts detailing village life and the countryside around us. Michelle eventually moved from the village and in recent years very little has been added to the blog, and consequently the blog has largely fallen into disuse.
In re-launching the blog in late 2026, we express our thanks to Michelle for leading the way, and assisting in the handover. The blog has had a little bit of a makeover but essentially is the same as always and should be familiar to past users.
With the difficulty and cost in printing and distributing newslettters, a website or blog seems the ideal way to report news and events, and other items of interest, alongside the other social media (Facebook) and email newsletters that exist. An important distinction though, is that a blog provides a permanent record of key events that take place in our village, something that is hard to match in social media posts and emails.
The Huttons Ambo Parish Council is now custodian of this blog and, on their behalf, I will edit it to the best of my ability. War Memorial, WW1: " George Francis Bowes" should be "Thomas Francis Bowes" - indeed, the WEB shows a picture of the Huttons Ambo was memorial with "Thomas" recorded there!! He died in France and Flanders 18 October 1918.
ReplyDeleteWilfred Everett was born in Wakefield but was living in Huttons Ambo, working as a Footman at the "big" house. He died on 21 October 1916 inj France and Flanders.
